“Montez Chez Madama
Giacinta Cesàri et choissez une chambre, vous y serez a
deux pas du Corso…”

Giacinta Cesàri’s and choose a room, you’ll find
yourself a stone’s throw away from the Corso…)

In Via di Pietra, a small street which
goes from Via del Corso towards the Pantheon, at the corner of
one of the most elegant and hidden squares of Rome, you will
find your hotel in the Heart of the Eternal City, the Cesàri
Hotel. A real family run gem. Since 1787 it has offered to those
who want to stay in Rome the warmth and the homeliness that they
desire, immersed in the striking setting offered by our symbol,
the Temple of the Emperor Hadrian. You will have the pleasure of
being housed in a 17th century building, whose appearance has
changed little in the course of the centuries, as the incisions
by Piranesi which portray it prove, but which has been renovated
during the years so as to obtain the right balance between
history and modernity. There are 47 rooms, of which 10 are
Superior, furnished with care and equipped with every comfort,
perfect for those who have chosen Rome as their destination. Our
terrace will offer unique emotions for your moments of leisure:
in the setting of the old Rome you will enjoy a delicious buffet
breakfast which will be waiting for you every morning included
in your stay, while the real magic starts at twilight, while you
sip the cocktails of the “Terrace Bar”. The Pantheon and the
Trevi Fountain, Montecitorio and Via Condotti. What you are
looking for in Rome you shall hold in your hands when you come
to the Cesàri, together with the added value of two centuries of
experience in the art of hospitality.
Our History
“We, Bernardino Ridolfi Patrizio Spoletino, Chamberlain of his
Holiness Our Pope Pius VI and Minister of the Sacred Vatican
Basilica and of the University of the Hoteliers, so as to
consider the person present a guest, concede the licence and
admit amongst the number of the Hoteliers of Rome Stefano
Cesàri... Today, 27th of February 1787.” With this licence,
unique document in all of the roman hosting landscape, starts
the now bicentennial history of the Cesàri hotel, a tradition
carried on during all of these centuries following the rules of
the most genuine roman hospitality. It suffices to notice how
again in 1869, when reading the most important guide of Rome of
the period, one can only find hotel signs with foreign names:
Hotel de Russie, Hotel d’Angleterre, Anglo American Hotel and so
on. The only two exceptions were the Grand Hotel of the Minerva
and, of course, the Cesàri Hotel. During all of these years the
Hotel has welcomed famous personalities of all periods: it was
dear to Stendhal, who spoke with great affection in his “Italian
Chronicles” of Madama Giacinta Cesàri’s guesthouse, and it gave
hospitality to the great scholars of Roman history Gregorovius
and Momsen. We move on then to fundamental figures of the
Italian Risorgimento, such as the Hero of the two Worlds,
Giuseppe Garibaldi, and Mazzini, who, precisely in the Cesàri
Hotel, wrote and proclaimed in front of the cheering population
the Constitution of the Roman Republic in 1848. The Cesàri Hotel
is intimately tied to the history of the Italian Capital, it has
lived the splendours of the Belle Époque and was threatened by
the demolitions of the Fascism, it was subjected to German
occupation and then received the Allies, who used it as an
official’s club. Still today we host the descendants of the
latter, emotionally carried by the memories which their fathers
have described to them. The Palumbo-Curti family has managed
this historical building since 1899, a dynasty which began with
Raffaele and subsequently became one of the longest lasting
Italian businesses entirely run by women. In the splendour of
its position, in the middle of Rome’s pulsating heart, you will
not be considered as clients, but as actual guests in the House
of an ancient roman family. The emotion of waking up and having
breakfast beneath the Roman sky, overlooking the columns of the
Temple of the Emperor Hadrian. The warmth and the friendly
welcome that only the Italian Capital can give. Amazement at
being surrounded by centuries of history. This is the Cesàri
Hotel, this is what we are.
